prof. Miroslav BÁRTA

Miroslav Bárta is an Egyptologist and archaeologist, former long-time director of the Czech Institute of Egyptology at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University and vice-rector of the Charles University.

He leads Czech excavations in Egypt and Sudan, and the focus of his archaeological activities is on the site of the pyramid builders in Abusir near Cairo. He is the recipient of many prestigious international awards for his work in science. Since 2023 M. Bárta is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

His main areas of scientific interest include archaeology and history of the 3rd and 2nd millennia B.C. He is intensively involved in the relationship between man and the landscape in antiquity, the development and collapse of complex societies.
